On September 26, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, join the fun on this two-way route of city streets open to walk, bike, roll, run, jump, and skip – without having to watch out for cars! The 4.5-mile Northwest Portland Sunday Parkways route will have two loops, connecting SW Stark Street, Old Town Chinatown, the Pearl District and the Northwest District.

Stop by the Northwest District Association table at Wallace Park and learn more about your neighborhood. Can you assemble the neighborhood map fast enough to a win prize? Perhaps you know NWDA history. Identify enough historic neighborhood photographs and win a prize. Interested in learning about another local neighborhood? Live in Portland Downtown, Old Town Chinatown or the Pearl District and want to get more involved with your community? Stop by the Neighbors West-Northwest table in front of the coalition office at 2257 NW Raleigh for more information.

The NW Sunday Parkways is an opportunity for you and your family and friends to get out and be active right in your own neighborhood. At the same time, connect to local organizations! Activities, food, and entertainment will be in Couch and Wallace Parks and along the route. Find more information, including a route map, at www.PortlandSundayParkways.org.

The Pearl District Neighborhood Association will be holding its 19th Annual Pearl Party on Friday, September 10, 2010 on 13th Avenue between NW Hoyt and NW Irving from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. All Pearl residents and business workers are welcome. The goal of the Party is to bring everyone together to celebrate living and working in the Pearl District. The fine restaurants of the Pearl District will be providing free samplings of food and there will be a free bar (donations encouraged) with beer and wine from local breweries and wineries. The Jim Mesi Band will provide entertainment and there will be a raffle of donated gift items and services from Pearl District Merchants.

The Party is the main fundraiser for the Pearl District Neighborhood Association. Any funds raised are returned directly to the neighborhood through the projects of the Association. One of the largest projects that will use the funds this next year is the Fido House Pet Station Project: purchasing 25 pet stations and installing them throughout the Pearl District to support pets and help keep the neighborhood clean. Each Pet Station functions as a dispensary for pet waste bags and a repository for the filled bags. Come support this project and have a great time at the Party!
