Plan Your Local Block Party! Training on 7/14

The sun is out and so are the people.  What better way to meet your neighbors than by hosting a block party?  Block parties are great community building activities that are easily scalable to fit any neighborhood.  You can host a block party and invite the entire neighborhood or a small subset.  Read ONI’s information about block party guidelines here. Contact NWNW with questions or to request a block party application.

Block parties are a popular way to celebrate National Night Out, small community events held  across the United States and Canada on the first Tuesday in August every year. On this day, neighbors enjoy parties and get-togethers with the people on their blocks and in their neighborhoods. The purpose of these gatherings is to promote crime, drug prevention and emergency preparedness by getting to know your neighbors.

This year’s National Night Out is scheduled for August 3rd, but parties held between July 30th and August 8 can be registered as official NNO events. Registered events qualify for special benefits from the city, such as street closures free of charge, reserved public park space and noise variances, plus the opportunity to invite neighborhood law enforcement officers and firefighters to attend. The deadline for registering your free event is July 27th.  Learn more about National Night Out here.
